The Independent is looking for full-time sub-editors for its business, sports and entertainment desks.

Jot Title: Sub-Editors

Do you have sharp eyes for details? Are you able to put a news story together with speed and style? Do you have the passion for journalism?

Responsibilities:

• editing copy and rewriting material so that it flows or reads better and adheres to the house style
• ensuring that a story fits a particular word count by cutting or expanding material as necessary
• writing headlines that capture the essence of the story
• checking facts and stories to ensure they are accurate
• laying out page and playing a part in page design
